Did you know you can make your own Liquid Soap with your favorite Just Like Jane Bar Soap?
It's easy, and it keeps us from shipping water and sending plastic pump bottles to the landfill. Win, win! All it takes is a bar of soap, a kettle on the stove, some water, a little patience, and something to put your soap in. Here's an easy recipe to try:
Gather:
Large non-aluminum kettle
4 oz. bar of soap (JLJ of course!)
1/2 gallon of water (distilled if your tap water is heavily mineralized)
Large non-aluminum spoon
Grater or butcher knife
Jar with a pump dispenser
Glass containers to store extra liquid soap
- Set your large kettle with 1/2 gallon of water on the stove to boil.
- Grate or chop 4 ounces of soap into small pieces while you wait.
- Add the grated soap to the simmering water.
- Stir gently until all the soap pieces are melted.
- Set the kettle on a safe surface to cool.
- Allow the mixture is cool and develop gel consistency. This may take between 12 and 24 hours.
- Stir gently and add a little bit of water at a time to thin if necessary.
- Pour soap mixture into your dispensing bottle.
- Store the extra soap in glass jars in a cool, dark location
- Refill as needed
Now you've got your very own stash of liquid soap! This can be done with the little leftover pieces of bar soap you don't want to waste as well.
